I hope that everyone had an enjoyable holiday break! It is great to have students back in the building as we restart for the 2nd half of the schoolyear. Our staff would like to send a quick thank you to everyone that has supported our PTO over the past few years. Through the hard work of executive board members, countless volunteers and tremendous community support, we have been able to significantly supplement the student experience at Ludlow-Taylor.
Through this work, we have been able to purchase and implement Columbia University’s Writing Workshop curriculum (along with high-level teacher professional development to accompany it), extend our partnerships with Freshfarm/FoodPrints and the Kennedy Center, and continually bring our community together through various family-based events (Movie Night, Publishing Parties, LT Halloween Parade, Winter Concerts, LT Thanksgiving, etc.), free of cost to all families. Before the holiday, every classroom teacher received a $100 gift card to restock classroom supplies, as well. We are planning next steps, and appreciate the expanded opportunities for students and staff!
Please see the updates below as we head into 2018 (including important inclement weather procedures!):
Inclement Weather – School Cancellations and Delays: Most immediate information regarding school cancellation or closings can be found at the DCPS twitter account (@dcpublicschools). Information will also be shared on the DCPS website (dcps.dc.gov), DCPS social media accounts, and local TV and radio stations. In the case of a delay, school doors will open at 10:15 a.m., with instruction beginning at 10:45 a.m. Further DCPS guidance can be found at https://dcps.dc.gov/page/inclement-weather-guidance.
LT Joy to the World Concerts: Special thank you to everyone that was able to make it out and support our “Joy to the World” concert series before the holiday break. I think we broke all multipurpose room attendance records!
Student Dismissal (For students not in after-school): Please have all students picked up between 3:10 – 3:25. As a reminder, students in PK3 – 2nd Grade are picked up from classrooms. For students in Grades 3-5, students will now be picked up in the art room – not the nook, starting Monday, January 8th. We do not always have the staff to cover students past 3:30, so please alert the office if a family member is ever arriving late.
Cold Weather Recess: As long as the temperature is above freezing, we plan to have students outside for recess, so please make sure students are sent to school with coats, hats and gloves, as needed. If any winter apparel is needed, we are happy to help - please let Ms. Frazier (Nicole.Frazier@dc.gov) or me (Andrew.Smith2@dc.gov) know.
Taste for the Arts Auction: The auction is a wonderful event for families, teachers, staff, and community members to spend a fun night out in support of our school (without students). This year’s event will take place on April 7th, 2018 at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church on Capitol Hill. Mark your calendar now and stay tuned for updates as the event gets closer.
