This week students have been using various locomotor skills to travel pathways (straight, zig-zag, curvy) at different levels (low, medium, high). Students were able to explore different pathways all over the floor and then identify them using a labeled cone. The focus of lesson was for students to be able to travel various pathways and still have awareness of staying in their personal space. The first activity was called "Airports". Students, could fly their plane throughout the space, using various pathways. When the music stops, you land your plane at one of the designated airports throughout the cafeteria. When landing their plane, students had to demonstrate what it looks like when your plane lands at a low, medium or high level.
K–GRADE 2
After reviewing locomotor skills the first two weeks, I wanted to incorporate directions, pathways and levels into the activities for the week. Students played a game called "Airports" to focus on self-space and levels and "Over the River" to work on the locomotor skill leaping.
GRADES 3–5
For the next two weeks we will continue working on cooperative games. As we begin to incorporate team games in the lesson, it's important for students to practice demonstrating sportsmanship skills, fair play, safe tagging strategies winning appropriately and accepting a loss. Students worked in groups of 4-5 and tried to move their team from one side of the gym to the other, while standing in hoops.
