ECE
At the beginning of each class, students come in and sit on a spot-marker which we refer to as our "Home". They sit on their "Home" and we briefly talk about the lesson for the day. This week's lesson was a review of pathways, levels and directions, but we also included, how to share with others. Students were given a hoop for their new homes, and would be practice using locomotor skills to travel different pathways throughout the neighborhood. While you are traveling, students can not stand in any hoops. When the music stops you must quickly stand in the nearest home. Once given the directions, students were able to identify the close relation to "Musical Chairs", only this activity was called "Musical Hoops". As we progressed through the game, I would remove a few hoops at a time. Instead of students being out, if they didn't have their own hoop, they could practice sharing space with another classmate. Students were encouraged to find ways to safely share a hoop with another student and how to include everyone.

K–GRADE 2
This week students practiced traveling different pathways and spacing. We played a game called "Musical Hoops". Each student had to move around the space (traveling different pathways) while the music was playing. When the music stopped they had to jump into a hoop. As the game progressed, hoops were removed and students were encouraged to find ways to share a hoop with another student. What's the least amount of hoops we could use to fit the class into, safely?

GRADE 3–5
In preparation for our fitness unit, students played aerobic games (Capture the Flag) that helped focus on safe tagging and sportsmanship.

    Coach Smith

I graduated in 2007, from the University of Delaware with a B.S. in Health Studies. I took the next 4 years to play professional basketball both in the WNBA and in different countries across Europe. I had the opportunity to work with all different aged students, running day camps and skill clinics for basketball and other sports.

It was after training and working with such a diverse group of coaches, students and teammates that I decided to return to the U.S. and pursue a Master's in Physical Education. After my first year in grad school, I started a position as a PE Coach, at the Suzuki School in Atlanta, GA.

This will be my first year in DCPS and I am looking forward to an awesome school year at Ludlow-Taylor Elementary.
