We are excited that warmer weather is finally here! Please see the updates below:
LTES Food Allery Policy: I want to thank all families for support with our new food allergy policy. This past Friday, all teachers were trained on food allergens, epi pen usage, and emergency protocols via the OSSE Division of Health and Wellness. With our further knowledge, and talking with families over the past few weeks, we are going to modify the policy for lunch that is brought in by individual students, so there will be two specific policies – one for student lunch brought in, and one for shared food for classroom/grade-level/school-wide events.
Classroom/Grade Level/School-Wide Activities: “Food related allergies, especially allergies related to nuts, can be life threatening for children with those allergies. As such, Ludlow-Taylor ES is a nut free school. Please do not send nuts, nut spreads, foods containing nuts to school with your child.“
Individual Student Lunch Policy: “Students may bring in food of choice for school lunch, however, students with any nut-related food items will be required to sit at specified tables in the cafeteria, or PK3/PK4 classroom. Nut-related foods are not allowed in any common area including hallways, classrooms (outside of specified ECE tables), playground, etc.”
2018-2019 Re-Enrollment: Please stop by the main office to re-enroll as soon as possible for 2018-2019 – it is now open! After-school enrollment will open May 14th, and students need to be registered for school, in order to register for after-school. The office will be open every Tuesday until 6:00 p.m. for families that cannot make it during the 8:00 – 4:30 regular hours.
New Staff Addition: We are excited to announce that Mr. Christopher Cannaday will be joining us for the rest of this school year and into next as our 2nd Health and Physical Education Teacher – don’t worry, Coach Smith is staying, too! With our new Health/Wellness Design, Coach Smith and Coach Cannaday will be working closely to increase the amount of activity for our students throughout the day. Coach Cannaday’s exciting biography detailing his basketball career and over seven years of teaching experience will be on the website in the coming days – we are very lucky to have him join us.
PARCC Testing: From May 1st – 4th and May 8th – 11th, students in grades 3-5 will be taking the PARCC test for 60 – 90 minutes a day. We have done our best to ensure minimal disruptions for students in ECE – Grade 2, with little changing throughout the building outside of the testing time. Please make sure students are well-rested, calm and on time!
Front Door/ECE Sign-In: To eliminate confusion, prior to 8:55 a.m., parents with students in PK3 or PK4, will only sign in in the classroom. After 8:55 a.m., all parents must sign in first with the security desk before moving past. Over the next week we will also be adding visitor badges to anyone entering the building from 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.
Mother’s Day Dance: Please RSVP to our Mother’s Day Dance by this Friday if you and a child plan to attend – it will be a great night!
