We have made it through January! Please see updates below, particularly upcoming events in February and a reboot of our Look For the Good Project.
Look For Good Project:
After a pilot period in the fall, we will be rolling back out our Look For Good Project, focused around social-emotional learning, with a few refinements beginning Monday, February 5th. Through this initiative, students are taught the meaning of gratitude, and how we can use this understanding to support people across our school and community.
On Monday, we will be introducing our students to our newly defined five core value that will drive interpersonal interactions across school (P.R.I.D.E.): Positivity, Respect, Integrity, Determination, Empathy. Each upcoming month will then have a focus around each value, with a school read aloud text and ongoing activities aligned to it.
February – Positivity - Gratitude Wall – On each floor students will have the opportunity to add quick notes of gratitude and positivity that will show appreciation for others. There will be a community wall in front of the school – please take a moment add to it!
March – Respect - You Matter Necklaces – We will be looking for the good throughout March, with students and teachers passing along necklaces that say “you matter,” when caught doing something kind and respectful for someone else.
April – Integrity - You Matter Letter – Students will be working on letters to give to someone in their lives that has had a positive impact on them.
May – Determination - Lollipop-Gram – Students and staff will be looking for all of our core values and filling out lollipop grams of gratitude when we see examples of others demonstrating one of our core values.
June – Empathy - Field Day/Community Appreciation – more info to follow!
Also, Look For Good shirts are back by popular demand and will be on sale for the month of February! Please visit the site: https://www.customink.com/fundraising/look4good to purchase yours today! These count as uniform shirts as proceeds go towards helping us continue this initiative!
Stuart-Hobson Middle School Open House:
The team at Stuart Hobson is looking to form a stronger connection with the families of LTES. The administrative team asked me to pass along the following message, “We’re hosting an Open House on Thursday February 8, 2018 from 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm. Visit the school, meet the leaders, and hear from current students and parents. Learn about the academic, arts, music and athletic offerings, and take a tour of the beautiful building. We hope to see you there!”
Community Fundraiser, Sally’s Middle Name: Please join us next Wednesday, February 7th from 5:30pm -7:30 pm at Sally’s Middle Name located down the street from school at 1320 H Street NE. Sally’s Middle Name is a delicious new restaurant that reached out to us in hopes of partnering with our FoodPrints Program. A portion of all sales from this evening will be donated back to the LTES PTO to continue FoodPrints into next year and beyond.
