I want to thank everyone that supported recent school events including: Fall Festival, Movie Night and the Halloween Parade. We had an incredible turnout for all and look forward to building on them for next year. I truly appreciate when we are all able to come together as a school community with joy and unity as the central goals. Also, a very special thank you to everyone that helped to organize! We are next looking forward to November 17th for our 2nd Annual LT Thanksgiving. Please see the updates below for further information:
Writer’s Workshop at LT: We are truly building a community of writers! Over the past few weeks, we had about 20 teachers take part in a full-day professional development seminar with a trainer from Columbia University, with instructional coaching that followed. With the help of the PTO, we were even able to send a few teachers to Philadelphia for additional professional development around writing. Please remind your students that they can write about anything and ask them what they may have written about at school – the answers may surprise you!
Family Feedback: I want to thank everyone for taking the time to fill out the feedback link that was sent out a couple weeks ago. It hopes of turn-keying some of the feedback, as a school team, we hope to continue building on the following:
- Specialized student experiences (field trips, in-school experts, learning in the community, school clubs, after-school clubs, etc.)
- Science program
- Community-based events that cross grade levels
- Normed parent communication across classrooms
- More clear understanding of homework expectations
- Focus on positive student behavior (see below on an immediate next step)
Look For Good Project: As part of a renewed focus on positive student interactions and behaviors, we will be rolling out, our own “Look For Good” Project, to have students, staff and families focus on acts of kindness throughout the school building. Research tied to this project suggest that it dramatically improves positive student interactions, while also reduces bullying incidences. As a whole, I feel we have an incredibly positive and supportive school culture, but that does not mean we cannot do better as we continue to learn more about social-emotional development and its impact on young people.
Please stay tuned for the roll-out over the next month and feel free to check the website tied to the campaign, www.lookforthegoodproject.org.
LTES PTO Fall Campaign: Over the next few days, in backpacks, all families will be receiving information regarding our PTO Fall Fundraising Campaign. As a reminder, 100% of donations directly impacts students and staff across all grade levels. As we know, the DCPS budget alone is not enough to achieve the world-class education we seek for our students. Your donations help bridge the gap by allowing investments in technology, inquiry-based learning materials, capital improvements, and adequate supplies for our teachers and specials leads. Please visit http://www.ludlowtaylor.org/donate.html for further information.
