I hope that everyone is off to a great start in 2017! We have a few exciting announcements below:
Playground Update:
Soon after Inauguration (January 20th), construction is supposed to begin on the new playground – fingers crossed!
Create DC Arts Festival:
This weekend, January 14th, The DCPS Arts Team welcomes all families to join us for a day of creative play alongside DC's amazing artists, educators, and arts organizations at Union Market's Dock 5. Mr. Levy will be presenting with students on the keyboards, and Mr. JP will be supporting the event as a whole, including showing the work of our students throughout the event. From Mr. JP, “I would like to encourage our students, staff, and their families to register and attend! I'm letting all of our students know about the festival. Registration is FREE and open at Eventbrite: https://createdc.eventbrite.com.”
Date: Saturday, January 14, 2017
Time: 11:00 AM – 3:00 PM EST
Location: Dock 5 @ Union Market 1309 5th Street NE Washington, DC 20002
National Guard at Ludlow-Taylor:
From Thursday, January 19th to Sunday January 22nd, roughly 300 members of the National Guard will be stationed at Ludlow-Taylor to provide security for DC during Inauguration Weekend. The building will be closed, but I am sure there will be lots of excitement around the building, with Humvees parked in the back, for those that want to stroll by. As part of the agreement, the National Guard will be returning in the spring for a presentation to our students.
Taste for the Arts Auction:
This year’s auction will be held on Saturday, March 25th, 2017 at St Marks Episcopal Church on Capitol Hill. Mark your calendars now, and stay tuned for updates as the date gets closer.
Outdoor Recess in the Cold:
As a general DCPS policy, students are not sent outside for recess if the temperature is below freezing. With that being said, we will send students out above 32 degrees, so please be sure to pack your kiddos with hats, gloves and coats. If any extra winter apparel is needed, please let me know personally or contact our social worker, Mrs. Frazier, at Nicole.Frazier@dc.gov.
Key Dates:
- Monday, January 12th – MLK Jr. Day - school closed
- Thursday, January 19th, Professional Development Day – school closed
- Friday, January 20th, Professional Development Day – school closed
- January 26th – PTO Meeting at 6:00 p.m.
Please reach out with any feedback.
