Thank You and Spring Announcements!

4/29/2019

Good afternoon,

We just wanted to send out a few quick announcements for some upcoming events and extend a huge thank you to everyone that made our LT Taste for The Arts Auction such a success.  It was great to see so many families out and we are thrilled with the opportunities that we will be able to further provide our students.

Spring Concerts: There was a conflict with our original date to use Stuart Hobson Middle School again, so the Spring Concert has been moved to Thursday, June 6th for one night (82% of respondents to our survey earlier in the year preferred one night instead of two, so we are going to give this a try)!  The event will look as follows:
  • 6:15 – 6:45 – PS-K will perform
  • 6:45 – 6:55 – 10 minute intermission to allow for PS-K dismissal
  • 6:55 – 7:40 – 1st-5th grades will perform
We will have clear details for logistics including a walking field trip permission slip for those that would like to have afterschool students walked to Stuart Hobson.

Afterschool Enrollment begins Wednesday May 1st at 9:00 a.m. Registration is only availabl online at https://dcps.dc.gov/node/1063782.  As a reminder, students will need to be registered for the 19-20 schoolyear in order to register for afterschool (please call the main office if your student ID number is needed).  We are encouraging all families to enroll for school and afterschool asap!

End of Year Graduations/Promotions:  It is that time of year to start marking your calendars for end of year celebrations!  Please check with teachers on individual times, as we have tried to spread out promotion dates across a few days to allow families with students in multiple grades to attend.
  • June 4th – PreK 3
  • June 5th – PreK 4
  • June 6th – Kindergarten Promotion
  • June 7th – 5th Grade Promotion

Bike to School Day: Please join us for Bike to School Day Wednesday, May 8th! Details below:
  • When: Wednesday, May 8th 7:30-8:15am
  • Where: Lincoln Park- near Emancipation Statue
  • What: This is Capitol Hill’s local celebration, but also the national event for the National Center for Routes to School with activities, snacks, local and national speakers, local businesses and organizations, and of course all your neighborhood friends!
  • Also: Our school team, led by Coach Smith and Principal Smith will leave the par around 8:15 to head to LTES.

Thanks for the continued support!

LT Families:

Thank you to everyone that came out to support our recent events including the Spring Fling and International Night!  We are hoping to see everyone at the Auction, this Saturday! Please see further information below:

LT Taste For the Arts Auction – We can't wait to see everyone at the Taste for the Arts Auction this Saturday, April 27th, 2019 from 7:00 to 10:00 pm at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church on Capitol Hill! The online auction is NOW OPEN for bidding! The auction will run from now through Saturday, April 27th at 10:00 pm. You do not need to attend the event to participate in the online auction. Just keep an eye on your bids so you don’t get outbid at the last minute!  You can view all open items (and buy tickets to the event) here:

Drop-Off/Parking – Thank you for your support in this always challenging DC parking matter!
  • G Street Door Open from 8:05 – 8:50 – in hopes of reducing congestion on the 7th street entrance, we are going to try opening the door on G Street during morning arrival for the next two weeks of school.
  • Parking – For morning drop-off, we ask that families park along G Street or Morris Street when possible, to eliminate some of the congestion in the front of school on 7th Street.  As the spots directly in front are reserved for busses from 8:15 – 8:45, we have recently seen cars parked in the crosswalks and on the grass across from the front door creating safety concerns and an increase in parking tickets (which we have no control over).
  • Dogs – If walking with a dog in the morning or afternoon and leaving it out front, please tie it up away from the front door of the school.  We have had a few friendly animals scare some of our kiddos, so please tie it up across the street from the front door, or along the Morris Street fence.

Spring Concerts: There was a conflict with the set date to use Stuart Hobson Middle School again, so we are waiting to update our calendar in the next few days and will send an additional email when the date is finalized.

End of Year Graduations/Promotions:  It is that time of year to start marking your calendars for end of year celebrations!  Please check with teachers on individual times, as we have tried to spread out promotion dates across a few days to allow families with students in multiple grades to attend.

Student Cell Phones – We ask that students that are bringing cell phones to school, that they remain in backpacks (and off/airplane mode) unless there is an emergency.  Student cell phones are only permitted during dismissal times 3:15 – 3:30 and 5:45 – 6:00 p.m.

LT Families:

With a few events around the corner, we wanted to get the update out early this week.  As a reminder, this will be our last week before Spring Break and there is no afterschool on Friday, April 12th .  We are hoping to see everyone at International Night this week (4/10) and our Auction soon after Spring Break (4/27).   Please see further information below:

Assistant Principal Transition:  We are excited to announce that with Assistant Principal Addison on maternity leave, Ms. Johnson will be taking on the responsibilities of a temporary assistant principal through early June.  To ensure a smooth transition, Ms. Johnson will still remain the lead in her classroom during the core morning instructional block with Ms. Wright’s support.   During this time, Ms. Johnson’s main areas of focus will be around school-wide events, early childhood instructional lead, paraprofessional support, school-wide coverage and schoolwide family support.  We thank Ms. Johnson for taking on the additional responsibilities and appreciate her leadership!

Afterschool, Friday April 12th – There will not be afterschool this Friday, April 12th as we head to Spring Break, so all students will need to picked up from school by 3:30 p.m.

Student Cell Phones – We ask that students that are bringing cell phones to school, that they remain in backpacks (and off/airplane mode) unless there is an emergency.  Student cell phones are only permitted during dismissal times 3:15 – 3:30 and 5:45 – 6:00 p.m.
