September 15-October 15 is National Hispanic Heritage Month. Ludlow-Taylor students and teachers have been celebrating the diversity throughout the Caribbean, Central and South America, including:
  • Mr. Jean-Pierre is teaching his art students about the indigenous people of central and South America. They explored contrast, color, lines, and geometric shapes by creating Molas. Molas are part of the traditional outfit for Panama's Kuna People who live on small coral islands in the San Blas Archipelago along the Atlantic coast of Panama and Colombia. In Dulegaya, the Kuna's native language, mola means shirt. Also, students explored art from Mexico by recreating Aztec watercolor paintings of birds and snakes. Students learned that animals and nature play a large role in Aztec Culture.
  • Mr. Levy and his music students in grades K-5 are singing songs in Spanish (Canciones Espanoles).Kindergartners will perform Hermano Juan (Frere Jacques) for the ECE and grade 1-3 students will sing at the "Celebrating Unity in Diversity" event on Monday, October 16. Grade 4-5 students will play instruments and sing Spanish pop songs, La Bomba and Mi Pais, at the Halloween/Day of the Dead celebration on October 31.

To culminate our month long journey, our specials team has organized the Celebración De La Herencia Hispana/ Hispanic Heritage Month Celebration-- an event full of music, fun and cultural enrichment.
