For Martin Luther King Day, art teacher, Mr. Jean-Pierre, provided students with paint, oil pastel, crayon, and marker to create the best representation of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Students were challenged to dream for a brighter future and to capture the essence of the civil rights leader and youngest Nobel Peace Prize winner.

Principal Smith and Assistant Principal Addison judged the art contest. Congratulations to the following winners!

Overall Winner (pictured on homepage)
Emya C. (Grade 5)

Honorable Mentions (pictured above)
Johnathan O. (Grade 5)
Jackson O. (Grade 5)
Leone B. (Grade 3)
Olivia J. (Grade 3)

Emaya will be presented with a $20 Amazon gift card to spend on art supplies and encourage her to further explore her creativity.  All of the finalists will be honored during our school's Black History program, "Show Time At The Apollo," on February 23, 2018.

More information about Black History Month will be available soon.

DC Greens invites members of the Ludlow-Taylor community to join the 2018 School Food Advisory Board. DC Greens and DCPS Food and Nutrition Services will be launching the 2018 School Food Advisory Board next month. The board will be made up of parents, students, teachers, nonprofit partners and other DCPS community members. The Board will provide a collaborative space for DCPS Food and Nutrition Services to share updates and receive feedback about their meal programs. The first of four meetings will be:

Wednesday, February 21
Dunbar High School

Food provided
Similar school food advisory groups in other cities across the US have lead to concrete changes in their cities’ meal programs, in food quality, food access (e.g. serving Breakfast in the Classroom), and other areas. By working together and engaging in productive dialogue, we can continue enhancing DC school food to ensure that our meals are tasty, nutritious, and culturally relevant.

Those interested in joining can sign up here for updates.

Questions? Contact David Lazere, Education Coordinator with DC Greens, at (202) 735-3391 or david@dcgreens.org.
