First Week of School
What class is my child in?
Class rosters were provided by our school-wide email announcement on July 26, 2019 and are posted online. If you are not receiving the school-wide emails from Ludlow-Taylor Elem School (email@blackboard.com), please email Ms. Thompson.
WHEN WILL eARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION (ece) STUDENTS' HOME VISITS BE SCHEDULED?
Families will be contacted by their student's teachers during the week of August 19 to schedule their home visits prior to the first day of school on Thursday, August 29.
IS ARRIVAL DIFFERENT ON THE FIRST DAY OF SCHOOl?
Yes! On Monday, August 26 (for grades K-5) and Thursday, August 29 and Friday, August 30 (for grades PreK3- PreK4), we encourage families to visit their student’s classroom. The schedule will be the following:
8:05 am: Doors will open and students/parents arriving at this time will report to the playground or cafeteria, weather depending.
8:30 am: All students/families will report directly to student homerooms for a brief tour and introduction to the classroom and teacher. We are encouraging families to show up around 8:30 a.m. and report directly to classrooms.
9:00 am on Monday (K-5) and Thursday (ECE): Principal Smith and Assistant Principal Addison, will meet briefly with all parents in the cafeteria for a brief overview of the new school year.
3:15-3:30 pm: Student dismissal, with doors opening at 3:05 p.m. for pick-up. Transition to afterschool for those that are already registered.

Students only need to bring a backpack to begin school. We will have plenty of supplies to begin the first few weeks. There is NO need for families to immediately go to the store to get supplies. We ask that families simply do their best to get supplies over the first 2–3 weeks of school. Grade level supply lists are now available. Learn more about uniforms and supplies.

What time does school open?
Ludlow-Taylor opens at 8:05 am for drop off and instruction begins at 8:55 am. If there is a two-hour delay due to inclement weather, school opens at 10:05 am for drop off and instruction begins at 10:55 am.
What are the arrival procedures for students in K-5?
All students arriving between 8:05-8:35 am are dropped off on the playground for movement and outdoor time. Students arriving after 8:35 will report directly to their classroom for breakfast.
All students who arrive after 9:00 am must check in with the office, sign into the late arrival book, and provide documentation for tardiness. Students in PK3, PK4, and K may be escorted to their classroom for late drop off.

For students arriving between 8:05 am–8:30 am, parents and students will drop backpacks in the classroom and then drop students off at either the playground. Students arriving after 8:30 will report directly to their classroom for breakfast.

Can I Stay In My Child's Classroom?
We wish to create an inviting environment for families while also maximizing our instructional time for students. After the first day of school, we ask that parents leave classrooms and hallways by 8:45 am. Additionally, specific arrangements can be made with teachers for conferences and classroom visits.
When and How are Students Picked Up?
We hope to maximize instruction and minimize distractions, so students cannot be picked up from 2:45–3:10 pm, unless there is an emergency or necessary appointment. Ludlow-Taylor opens at 3:10 pm for pickup. All students from ECE-Grade 2 are picked up from the classroom. Parents are allowed to enter and pick-up students from K-2 classrooms at 3:15 pm. Grades 3-5 are dismissed from the multi-purpose room-B (basketball side). Students that are not in afterschool must be picked up by 3:30 pm. Older students who walk are dismissed as their classes come to the multi-purpose room.
Afterschool: At 3:20, City Year will pick-up all afterschool students from their classrooms and escort them to their afterschool location. To pick up a student from afterschool, s/he must be signed out from the afterschool desk at the front entrance when they are picked up.

Who Can Pick Up My Child?
Families must list the names of all people with permission to pick up their students on the registration form in the main office. Please update that list as needed. If someone not on the list needs to pick up a student, inform the student’s homeroom teacher and send a written note to the main office. The person picking up the student will need identification. With safety as our top priority, we do not allow students to leave with others unless the aforementioned procedure is followed.

IS LUDLOW-TAYLOR A UNIFORM SCHOOL?
Ludlow-Taylor implements a mandatory uniform policy with uniforms that are expected to be worn every day, except on Fridays. On casual Fridays, students may wear uniforms or appropriate school clothing.
Closed-toed shoes are required everyday for safety reasons. Students are not able to participate in physical education or recess if appropriate shoes are not worn.

Is Breakfast provided?
Yes, breakfast is provided for free to all students. The breakfast schedule is:

how much is lunch?
Lunch costs $3.00 (PK-5th Grade) for families that do not qualify for free and reduced lunches. Details on qualifying for free lunch meals are available at dcps.dc.gov/farm.

- By paying with a credit or debit card at myschoolbucks.com an online prepayment service
- Setup SMART PAY to automatically add money to account whenever it reaches a low balance
- Receive low balance notifications to remind you when funds are low
- Please note: there is a service charge of $2.49 per transaction for MySchoolBucks
- By sending a check or money order made payable to the DC Treasurer to the following address: DCPS Food and Nutrition Services; 1200 First Street, NE, 9th Floor; Washington, DC 20002. *The student ID# MUST be included.

DCPS updates breakfast, lunch, snack, and supper menus monthly and provides them as a printable PDF. View or print Ludlow-Taylor’s menus for the current month.

is food provided during afterschool?
Yes. Students are provided a snack and a light supper during afterschool.
Is Ludlow-Taylor a nut-free school?
Yes. Food related allergies can be life threatening for children with those allergies. As such, Ludlow-Taylor ES is a nut free school. Please do not send nuts, nut spreads, and foods containing nuts to school with your child for breakfasts, lunches, snacks or treats. See our Food Allergy Policy for more information.

Before and Afterschool
WHEN DOES AFTERschool BEGIN?
For 2019-202 school year, afterschool will begin on the first day of school, August 26 for K-5 students and August 29 for ECE students. Please contact our afterschool coordinator, Ms. Thomas, with any questions. Learn more about afterschool.
IS THERE BEFORE CARE IF I NEED TO DROP MY STUDENT OFF BEFORE 8:05 AM?
Ludlow-Taylor does not offer before care at this time.
